I am also trying to install my camera using my NAS as storage but it keeps coming up server address incorrect. Can someone provide details of how I can set up hikvision storage onto my QNAP please. The NAS settings seem to initialise and then indicate 'normal' status but after a while it shows as uninitialised. I have tried using the NAS storage option from within the hikvision config page. I prefer to use the Hikvision apps (IVMS) on my mac and mobile phones. (I have got everything working via surveillance station however, I am not happy with the live playback via QVR client and also I have noticed that sometimes there are missed recording times). IĨ hikvision cameras Qnap TS-251+ (4TB) each camera: continuous recording for 5 days compression h.264 resolution 2688 x 1520 bitrate type constant max bitrate 16384 kbps frame rate 12 fps I am trying to set up all my cameras to use the NAS storage instead of going through QNAP Surveillance station for storage. Therefore, I don't know if it's the actual QNAP apps that are faulty or whether the actual video file is like this. I cannot view the recordings any other way within a mac (unless someone can help). RECORDED The recorded picture is also jerky via QNAP QVR (mac). When I view the live feed via the Hikvision camera page the picture is smooth no jerkiness. PLAYBACK When I'm viewing the live feed via the QNAP QVR (Mac) or QNAP Mobile (Android) i can see the picture is a bit jerky. STORAGE I guess the 200GB storage limit is no good to me as it will be filled within couple days (continuous recording). They are all going into a 100 Mbps netgear PoE switch which is connected to my router which is then connected to the QNAP.
Check out the NAS system resources in Control Panel to see if CPU or IOPs or LAN is stressed. But you are using a high bitrate - and maybe pushing the NAS I/O capability a bit for a real-time stream. Also confirm the gaps are inherent in the recordings or a manifestation of the playback. *edit* When using the NetHDD for recording. And you should also be able to play back the recordings via the camera's own 'mini-NVR' facilities. WMP will work OK on the NAS SS files if the q.264 codec has been installed by the QVR client. *edit* Only when using the NetHDD (gives h.264 files) for recording.

On playback - you should be able to confirm that the QVR client is the cause of poor playback quality (likely) by playing the files directly with VLC media Player (has h.264 support built in) or Windows Media Player if you add an h.264 codec. If using NFS, then you may have to resort to creating individual flexible volumes - assuming your NAS has the Logical Volume Manager capability. If you are using SMB/CIFS, and specific UserIDs for the camera, the user space quota on the QNAP NAS should work OK and allow an easy way to determine the size ceiling. For firmware around 5.2.5 the ceiling for the maximum volume size is a little over 200GB. By implication, each share must be dedicated to an individual camera. The 'format' just produces a framework of placeholder folders files and indexes.

Depending on the firmware version of the Hikvision cameras, there is a maximum volume size (not free space) above which the 'format' of the share by the cameras fails.
